How to Join the Jets

History:

The Cambridge Jets was established in 1987 by Husband and Wife Curtis and Kimberly Jackman and since then The Jets have become a well know organization in the Cambridge community. Through our growing affiliations with local colleges (Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Boston Collage and others) we have been able to practice and hold events at top-notch facilities. With strong support from parent, local organizations and our coaching staff. Jets athletes have thrived in the sport, winning a number of team championships and individual awards. To date Jets runners have qualified to run for the U.S. national team in the Junior Olympics. Many Jets runners continue their sport at the collegiate level some even earning scholarships in universities all over the country. The Cambridge Jets team participates in state, regional,

and national meets in exciting locations including New York City, Orlando, Florida, and Knoxville Tennessee.

Coaching Staff:
Head Coach: Curtis Jackman
Asst: Opal Hines Fisher
Asst: Matt Chisum

Head Coaches: Curtis Jackman have been involved in the sport of track and field since they themselves were children and they posses first hand knowledge of the enrichment opportunities the sport can provide.

Curtis was a top High School Track Athlete who started coaching the Jets shortly after graduation. Kimberly holds an Associates Degree from Roxbury Community College and Bachelors degree in Human Services from UMass Boston.

Curtis Jackman are certified as coaches by the USA Track and Field Organization.

On June 3rd, 2000 the Jackmans received a community service award from the Galluccio Associates Youth Sports Awards and in March 1997 the Cambridge

Black Cultural and Historical Association presented the Black History Month Award to the Jackmans. "In recognition of Outstanding Community Leadership and Service."

So what's involved? Is it a big commitment?

You could say that, both for the athletes and for their parents. On average there are 2 track meets a month,(typically on weekend days) and practice is twice a week in the Indoor Season and three times a week during the outdoor and cross country seasons. The Cambridge Jets are committed to your children and the sport and have established themselves as leaders in the New England Youth Track comminute. The Jets have taken on the responsibility of hosting some of the major track meets in the region and when these events come up parent involvement will be necessary.

Sounds great how can I join?
